Following the success of her 2013 documentary ‘Blackfish’, Gabriela Cowperthwaite is jumping into narrative dramas with the true-life tale Megan Leavey and ahead of a release this summer, the first trailer has arrived.
Starring Kate Mara, it follows her titular character who received the Purple Heart after fighting in Iraq, where she formed a bond with a canine. Years later, she fights to adopt him, and judging from the trailer, it looks to be a heart-tugging drama. Also starring Edie Falco, Ramón Rodríguez, Bradley Whitford, and Common, check out the trailer below.
MEGAN LEAVEY is based on the true life story of a young marine corporal (Kate Mara) whose unique discipline and bond with her military combat dog saved many lives during their deployment in Iraq. When she is assigned to clean up the K9 unit after a disciplinary hearing, Leavey identifies with a particularly aggressive dog, Rex, and is given the chance to train him. Over the course of their service, Megan and Rex completed more than 100 missions until an IED explosion injures them, putting their fate in jeopardy.
Megan Leavey opens on June 9.

Our gallery was updated with digital screen captures of Kate’s most recent project, Man Down. The film, directed by Dito Montiel and also starred by Shia Labeouf, Jai Courtney and Gary Oldman, tells the story of Gabriel Drummer, an U.S. Marine that just returned home from his tour in Afghanistan.
Accompanied by his best friend Devin Roberts (Jai Courtney), a hardnosed Marine whose natural instinct is to shoot first and ask questions later, he searches desperately for the whereabouts of his estranged son, Johnathan (Charlie Shotwell), and wife, Natalie (Kate Mara). In their search, the two intercept Charles (Clifton Collins Jr.), a man carrying vital information about the whereabouts of Gabriel’s family. As we revisit the past, we are guided in unraveling the puzzle of Gabriel’s experience and what will eventually lead us to finding his family.
Man Down is available on Digital HD from Amazon Video and iTunes, and the DVD/Blu-Ray will be released next March 7.
