Ellen Page And Kate Mara Talk Nylon About ‘Mercy’

NYLON – Ellen Page and Kate Mara were looking for a project to work on together, but they wanted it to be a love story. When they were sent Joe Barton’s screenplay for My Days of Mercy, it stood out from the rest.

“I thought that it was a unique love story because there are other things and other conflicts happening in both of their lives,” Mara told me in September, as she sat across from friend and onscreen love interest Page, as well as My Days Of Mercy director Tali Shalom Ezer. It was only the beginning of the Toronto International Film Festival when we spoke, but both Page and Mara are seasoned actresses who have done this promotional song and dance before. In fact, Page was doing it for two films then, as she also stars in the zombie thriller The Cured.

My Days Of Mercy is special, though, and Page and Mara are extremely proud of what their partnership produced. The dark indie follows Page’s Lucy, a downtrodden, tomboyish young woman whose entire life has been eclipsed by the fact her father is on death row for having allegedly killed her mother. She spends all of her time with her older sister Martha (Amy Seimetz) and younger brother Benjamin (Charlie Shotwell), as they take an RV across the Midwest, protesting capital punishment outside of prisons. It’s an unlikely place for a meet cute, but that’s where Lucy first comes across Mercy (Mara), who is, of course, on the other side of the picket line. While appearances might indicate that Mercy is on the straight and narrow, her intense interest in Lucy dictates otherwise.

Kate Mara joins new FX series ‘Pose’

The Hollywood Reporter – Kate Mara joined, alongside Evan Peters, James Van Der Beek and Tatiana Maslany the pilot of Ryan Murphy’s 1980’s FX drama ‘Pose‘.

The drama looks at the juxtaposition of several segments of life and society in 1980s New York: the rise of the luxury Trump-era universe, the downtown social and literary scene and the ball culture world.

Peters and Mara, both of whom have worked with Murphy on American Horror Story, will play a New Jersey couple named Stan and Patty who get sucked into the glamor and intrigue of ’80s New York City.

Van Der Beek will portray Stan’s financial kingpin boss. Maslany is set as a modern dance teacher who takes a special interest in the talent of Damon (previously announced cast members Ryan Jamaal Swain.)

Murphy and FX made history Wednesday when it was announced that the pilot will feature five transgender actors in a series regular roles — a scripted TV record. The castings came after a six-month nationwide casting call for the project.

If picked up to series, this would mark Murphy’s fourth at FX, joining anthologies American Crime Story, American Horror Story and Feud. He also the upcoming Fox drama 911, set to premiere midseason.
